Biography

Dr. Umberto Laforenza is an Assistant Professor at Department of Physiology, Section of Human Physiology, University of Pavia, Italy. Umberto Laforenza gained his Ph.D. degree in physiology (1992). In 1987, he obtained his specialization in industrial farmacy from the University of Pavia, Italy. During the year 1984, he has the M.S. degree in farmacy, University of Pavia, Italy.

Research Interest

Dr. Umberto Laforenza research interests are in the intestinal absorption of water and solutes in normal and pathological conditions.

Biography

1. What makes an article top quality? 

Response: Four crucial points have been considered: 1) Important aim of the study inserted into a international scenario , 2) clear design, 3) methods presented in sufficient detail, 4) results (supported by statistic) well described and properly discussed.

2. Do you think that journals determine research trends?

Response: Sometimes.

3. What makes a good position paper?

Response: Good data but also eminent scientist.

4. What are the qualities you look for in an article?

Response: Goodness of results obtained and/or originality of the study.

5. Can you give us a broad indication of the types of themes a scientific journal should cover?

Response: As wide as possible.

6. What sorts of research methods and frameworks do you expect people to use, and how will they balance conceptual and applied research?

Response: Not only are the methods most trendy, but those most appropriate for the purpose; i.e. to study the intestinal transport of an X solute everted jejunal sacs can provide more information than the gene expression.

7. How would you describe the journal’s mission and editorial objectives to our readers?

Response: The JNFD aims and scope include peer-reviewed research articles on all aspects (basic and applied) pertaining to Food and its related Nutritional Disorders.

8. If you could be granted dream articles, what would they be on?

Response: Multidisciplinary studies.

9. Are there any particular areas which you would like to see, or expect to see, collaborate?

Response: No special.

10. How does the research published percolate through to practitioners?

Response: It depends on the professionalism of the practitioners and on and the visibility of the research.

11. How can a publisher ensure the authors/readers a rigorous peer review and quality control?

Response: Perhaps a double-blind peer-review.

12. Your editorial policy is to be eclectic and welcome perspectives from other disciplines and schools. How does this translate into the types of contributions you encourage?

Response: I honestly do not know.

13. What do you see as the merits of journals, as opposed to book series, as a means of scholarly communications?

Response: Quick update of individual aspects of the research.

14. How do you differentiate Journal of Food & Nutritional Disorders Research with other journals in the field?

Response: Aspects of nutritional-disorders closely related to food, where food is the main character.
