Biography

Dr. Jessica Bugg is a senior academic with a background in fashion and textiles and a practice led PhD from the University of the Arts, London (UAL) and over fifteen years cross disciplinary teaching and research experience in graduate and post graduate education. She is currently Associate Professor of fashion and Program manager for fashion at The Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology (RMIT). Until 2014 she was Research Development coordinator for the School of Media and Communication at the London College of Fashion (UAL), and prior to this Director of Programmes for Performance at the same institution. She has lectured and run courses in fashion design, illustration, fashion promotion and design for performance as well as delivering conference papers, publishing, exhibiting and curating exhibitions in her field both in the UK and internationally. Jessica’s research and practice is concerned with developing methods for embodied clothing design and communication that are informed by interdisciplinary practice at the intersection of fashion, fine art and performance. She has designed predominantly for exhibition, the music industry and contemporary dance and more recently moving image. Her work has been performed and exhibited in group and solo exhibitions at galleries and venues including The ICA,, APT Gallery, Queen Elizabeth Hall, Barge House South Bank, the Linbury Space, Royal Opera House, The Place and at the Bolzano Festivalin Italy. Recent work includes concept and co-curation of Fashion & Performance: materiality, Meaning, Media at the Arnhem Mode Biennale 2013, Netherlands; concept, design and art direction of a costume led performance at the National Gallery, London and a garment installation performance at Wye Gallery, Berlin for Berlin Fashion Week.
